Why are so many Dungeness crabs missing limbs and claws?
After crabbing Baker Beach last Friday, it dawned on me that we humans may be the cause. Any frequent crabber will know that the shore is often lined with fishers and their snares. It was only on Friday that I watched a crab almost reeled in….when the fisher perhaps pulled too aggressively in the surf….and lost the crab…but still reeled in the snared limb.
